11th August 2008

This morning we finally left Kununurra after almost 2 weeks waiting for the Bravo to be repaired. We left the Town Caravan Park in Kununurra at 0725.

Our first stop was the Shell Service Station to refuel the Bravo with diesel which was on the board at 199.9 cents per litre but the Coles shopper docket reduced it to 195.9 cents per litre. I filled the ‘jerry’can as well as the Bravo.

We noticed that the power to the Fridge/freezer on the Bravo was not working so on examination it turned out to be a blown fuse. I bought some extra fuses from Auto One just in case.

We set off and moved along to the aboriginal owned, but not operated, Doon Doon Roadhouse where we had a cup of tea for Prue and a packet cappuccino for me as well as a muffin. After a short break and check around the Bravo and Karavan we moved on.

Next stop was Turkey Creek Roadhouse which is also owned but not operated by the aboriginal community. We bought some drinks and sandwiches to keep us going for a while. There were a lot of caravans, cars and trucks at Turkey Creek. They were travelling in both directions on the Great Northern Highway. We enjoyed the break and now moved on.

We passed the entrance to the Bungle Bungle (Purnululu) National Park. It was the area that we had the problem with the Bravo. Jokingly, I suggested to Prue that we may as well go in so we could walk in the areas we had not been. She was not at all enthusiastic. Anyway, we proceeded on to Halls Creek.

Halls Creek is only a small service town and seems to have a large aboriginal population. They were quite noticeable and all doing very little. Pay day was last week so not much happens until the next pay day, from the Government.

The Bravo was topped up with diesel as we had travelled around 300 kms. We have a lot more kms to do so it is easier to top up and not have to worry. This diesel was 203.5 cent/litre and it was 4 cents less as they also accept shopper dockets. So it was the same as the posted price in Kununurra.

It was lunch time so we went to the Tourist Information Centre where there is a small cafe attached. We both ordered a ‘healthy’ hamburger each and they actually made a reasonable quality and priced cappuccino.

Our total for the day was 547 kms which has been one of our longest days on our trip. We are trying to catch up a little after our enforced stoppage. Our day ended with our regular pre dinner red wine.
