2nd August 2008

This was to be a bit more of an easy day rather than the slightly stressful days we have had during the past week. Hopefully, we can see the Bravo being straightened next week and us back on the road soon after.

Prue went for a walk quite early. She walked around the town and as she was coming home, did some grocery shopping. She also checked out the early stalls at the Kununurra Markets. These are about the same size as a smaller Ballina Market and with similar items.

I went on a 40 km ride which I successfully managed to ride at a lower heart rate. This is easily achieved when it is only me riding. I still averaged 27 km/hour. A lot of this ride was in a light fog with visibility of only about 1 kilometre. It was so nice as there was no breeze and it was nice and quiet. On my return into the town, I also rode past the markets.

After having a shower and coffee, I did a massage and then we went out to the “Top Rockz Gallery”. This is just out of town off the Ivanhoe Road. It is an amazing display of Stone Art and Jewellery as well as a treasure trove of geological wonders. One especially nice rock is known as the Zebra Stone. It has beautiful stripes that give the thought of Zebras.

There are many magnificent types of rocks in this region. The owners of the gallery mine the rocks locally and return to Perth to cut, polish and generally prepare them for display and sale. The owners are the parents of the farm owner on which the Gallery is located. It is a type of retirement hobby for them. A very nice place to visit.

After we left the Gallery, we went into the CBD as we needed to get some cash from the ATM. It was a line up with about 10 aboriginal people getting funds out. There was only one out of two ATMs working. Anyway, no problems getting cash eventually.

Back to the Karavan to have lunch. The after lunch, we prepared to go and watch the Wallabies play the All Blacks in Auckland. Sadly, the Wallabies lost by quite a margin. I think this was to be expected after the Wallabies big win last week. The Kimberley Grande Tavern was heavily loaded with All Black supporters as compared to the previous week.

Soon after we returned to the Caravan Park, we then went and joined Ian and Kay, fellow Karavan owners, for pre-dinner drinks. We are really enjoying their company and talking about how they have modified their Karavan to make it even better. After drinks, we returned to have our dinner.
