5th August 2008

The day started quite slowly especially as I had a day off from cycling. Prue went for a walk and did a little shopping on her way back.

Most of the morning was involved in going through all the photos taken on our flight. There were more than 200 photos to look at and then drop off before we were happy with the ones to go on the blog site.

During the morning, I seemed to be chasing the Insurance Company. They would tell me they will ring back and then did not. They then started to ring and ask pathetic questions about our Mazda and Karavan. We suspected that they were looking at any way of not paying for the repairs. They talked about driving on rough roads so I fired into them by saying these were State Government roads and not unmarked tracks. Also, reminded them that here are more unsealed council roads than sealed. A mob of air heads who hold down positions that can ultimately cause stress to policy holders. You would be right by thinking I am not happy with Insurance brokers and companies.

We had lunch and then went to the shops to get a few items and have a coffee. Even there the clowns from the Insurance Company asked stupid questions. Anyway, after a nice coffee, we did our shopping without further harassment.

At 1535, we were picked up by a bus to go on the BBQ boat for a sunset cruise and BBQ meal. Ian and Kay also came on the bus. We did the rounds of several either caravan parks or hotels to collect passengers. Eventually we arrived at the jetty near the town.

Everyone boarded the BBQ boat and we travelled slowly upstream on the lower reaches of Lake Kununurra. The skipper told us about the wildlife as we passed along the waterway. A little later, we arrived at the spillway gates on Lake Kununurra.

Beside the spillway gates, is the old pump site that was used to pump water into the Ord River irrigation supply channel. This was used to get the water into the channel and now because the Lake is kept at a constant level the supply is by gravity.

The old pump house is being redeveloped into a restaurant. This should be very nice as it has magnificent views of the Lake and surrounding landscape.

The sun was almost gone by now and so the main meal was being served. It was preceded by nice nibbles’. The main meal consisted of a variety of BBQ meats and salads. Then after the main meal a great array of fruits of the Ord River valley were offered.

Eventually, the almost 40 people, we returned to the jetty and to the bus which then took us back to the locations we were all staying in. It was a really nice evening in nice company.
