8th August 2008

The day started as usual, with Prue going for a walk and me going cycling.

Prue went up into the Miramar National Park to get some more early photos. The morning was nice to be in the park.

I did a circuit around the northern part of the Ord Irrigation area. The road is flat and the surface is very good with only a few metres of poorer quality road. It is so nice to ride through the rural area. One small section is just like Ballina in that I rode beside some sugar cane. Sadly, there has been an issue with the Korean owned mill and sugar is no longer being grown here. The various crops, I pass, are so fresh and green except for the crops that a starting to ripen. Anyway, I did a quick ride of 38 kms. The only thing is that the wind starts to come up quite early from the south east.

After our early morning activities, we had a relaxing time having chats with Ian and Kay and various others around the park. We also did a bit of tidying around the Karavan area especially after all the strong wind, leaves and red sandy dust. I am sure that we will have that with us for some time.

We decided to walk to the CBD for lunch at the Boab Cafe in downtown Kununurra. Quite a nice lunch with a nice coffee. We made conversation with one of the backpacker wait staff and she was amazed we had been in her village in Germany. She is making some money to travel a bit more in Australia. Everywhere we go in Kununurra there are backpackers working. Someone remarked that Kununurra survives on backpackers. It is sad the local aborigine population do not want to work but are happy to lie around under trees and on the street.

After lunch, we went to Coles to do some shopping and of course to stock up on some nice red. This is in preparation for our likely departure in a few days.

Following on from shopping, I went around to the Repair Shop where Darren, the owner, told me he expected the Bravo to be completed ready for me the next morning but was reliant on Argyle Engineering to have completed the welding of the plate to the chassis. A light at the end of the tunnel!

So, a trip to Hertz Rentals to advise that we may be able to return the car on Sunday morning, if the Bravo is ready. They are quite relaxed up here and it is not a problem.

The day was coming to the end and that meant our evening drinks with Ian and Kay. Lots of chatter and good fellowship before we both went to cook our evening meals. Maybe tomorrow the Bravo returns.
